I wish I could join! Unfortunately, I'll be on the East Coast for most of the spring semester and can't make the timing work (I'm usually in MST, so extra bummed about this!). Do you think you'll offer this course again in the future? Always love listening to your podcast and learning from you about memoir. <3
Thank you so much for your message and your support, Courtney! I am sorry the timing doesn't work out this go around. Yes, I will offer this course again, for sure and perhaps I can set it so more east coasters can easily make it. I'm glad you're enjoying the podcast. I hope you have a great spring semester!
I did not see any info regarding the cost of the course. Perhaps my fault in missing it. However, I am also like the writer above who would find it difficult to work and participate effectively in sessions from 9pm-midnight. So, I suppose the cost is irrelevant, though I would still like to know it. Thank you.
Hi David, thank you for your message. Here is the link for enrollment info and cost. It’s is 30 hours of instruction over the course of 10 weeks and is $945.
Hello Ronit, I am very interested in your course but I’m wondering if it would be the right course for me. I love love your podcast and I think you are an absolutely wonderful teacher. I’m in the middle of a rewrite for my memoir (I changed the structure to a dual timeline). I don’t know if my money would be better spent taking this class and making connections with other writers (which I really need to do) or hire you to do a developmental edit of the manuscript. My resources are limited and need to be smart about how I use them. Any thoughts?
Hi Gabriella! Thank you for your message and your kind words. I love teaching memoir and am happy that what I've been offering has been helpful to you.
I understand this is an important decision and one you must make with your time and resources in mind. Here are some considerations in no particular order that you can mull over and see if they are helpful:
-The class will be a great way to expand your understanding of different approaches to memoir and become an astute memoir reader and writer because we will be steeping ourselves in the genre for the 10 weeks. Your perspective will become sharper through revising your work and learning from classmate's work. There can be a lot of a-ha moments, group discussion, and creative growth this way.
-A developmental edit is great one-on-one support, undivided attention, and always helpful, especially if you feel the editor aligns with the vision you have for your work and you know how to assimilate the editorial suggestions.
-In the class you will get to share and workshop two pieces during our time together.
-If you feel you can take what you learn in class and apply it to your manuscript before hiring a developmental editor that might be efficient and economical. Also, you will likely develop friendships/community with classmates who can become trusted readers for your manuscript. You can use their guidance first and then later you can explore hiring an editor.
-Developmental editors range in cost but this chart from the Editorial Freelancers Association will give you rates based on page, word count, and time: https://www.the-efa.org/rates/
-Schedule-wise I'll have room for a few new manuscript clients beginning in June 2025 after the class ends and I complete work with current clients.
I hope some of this is helpful to you as you think about the best option for you. Please let me know if there are other questions I can answer.
I'm very interested in this course. I'm finding myself writing but need guidance. However, I'm living in Central European Time Zone. Thank you for your wonderful work. I'm being continually helped.

Thanks for your response! Looking forward to future offerings. 🥰
It's not only held at a bad time for me, it's way out of my price range. But thanks for responding. Best wishes and good luck with it!
Thank you, David!

All my best,

I'd love this, but 6 to 9 pm Pacific means 9 to midnight Eastern, and I can't do that.
Thank you for your message, Jeannie. I’m sorry this class isn’t at a good time for you and look forward to another opportunity to have you in class.🧡

I will be sure to post future offerings, too.
